My Design Process

I create designs in Affinity Designer by digitally forming geometric shapes, and putting them together in both specific and interesting ways. Kind of like electric construction paper cut-and-paste.
I deliberately attempted to move away from realism and precise measurements, in favor of a general idea of an object. Pieces usually take several weeks to complete. For buildings, for example, it takes about 1-3hrs or more to complete each one, depending on the intricacy of the design and the style of architecture involved. I experiment with different techniques, color palettes and shapes, which also takes time.Sometimes I'll add a pixel layer of a manually painted sky or some other thing.

Done on iPad for convenience, as I can carry my iPad around to the zoo, to the park, to my models, or anywhere in my home. I create using Procreate for iPad Pro and in a similar way to traditional forms of art creation. I have an Apple Pencil which I use to pass time, iterate, sketch out preliminary ideas and concepts, etc. I even use it to practice calligraphy (Latin based, Japanese and Arabic). Once I have a sketch done, I can decide to color it within Procreate or move it to a vector design program (see above).

I play around with acrylic and gouache, as well as watercolors and simple pencil sketches, which sometimes turn into colored pencil drawings or pastels (soft and oil) ... or I take the sketch, scan it and finish it digitally.
